Straylight Run concert
On Friday night, I went to the Straylight Run concert; Hot Rod Circuit, Northstar and Say Anything opened up for them.
Say Anything was okay, my least favourite of the bunch, mostly because of the way the lead singer annunciated some of the words, really annoyed me (plus he sort of reminded me, visually, of Chris Parnell from SNL). I liked Northstar, they were good - and for some reason, I was mesmerized by the many (many) times the drummer kept wiping himself down with a towel after EVERY SINGLE SONG...and very thoroughly too. Hot Rod Circuit had an equipment problem before their set and the lead singer got all hissy-fit-y about it, storming on stage and yelling at the equipment people - it was mighty amusing. He was like "we were fucking paid to play and when we fucking get on the fucking stage, we expect everything to be ready so we can play for the fucking people". Ha.
Straylight Run were fucking awesome. Too bad from where I was standing, big fat heads were in my way so I couldn't see the far left of the stage, where the keyboard is. So sometimes I couldn't see Michelle and sometimes John. Oh well. I was hoping to hear "Costello" but John said that because we all illegally downloaded it, it wasn't supposed to be heard yet or something. So they said they won't play it...at least not any time soon. Too bad because I love that song. As for a song I never really thought much of before the concert, but liked it a lot after hearing it live, that has to be "It's For The Best". Oh and apparently, as Herberth told me but I wouldn't bet my cows on it, John Nolan was standing right behind me for the whole of the Hot Rod Circuit set and talking to people. AND I DIDN'T KNOW IT. Good thing I never did anything like pick a wedgie or something during that time haha.

THE MOST FUNNIEST VIDEO CLIP YOU'VE GOTTA SEE (windows media player required)
Thanks to Jo for sending this to me. I almost peed my pants laughing.
Richard Simmons on Whose Line Is It Anyway?
Is he trying to be more gay or is he just like that naturally??!!

oh, and i just watched the ashlee simpson thing. stupid girl. i hate how she blamed her band. what a moron. was it also there fault that she was lip syncing?

The band's fault that she was lip syncing? Not likely. But as for whether the band had a supposed hand in this debacle? Some are saying perhaps:

And some are saying that many artists are suppose to lip sync on Saturday Night "Live":

Actually here's a better view as to whose fault it really was:

soudns liek a coverup. I doubt that they were supposed to be played backing percussion. It hink that they accidentally played her pieces of me song because it was in the cd player from her first performance of the night and someone forgot to switch it. at least the band could play and didn't wuss out and run away when their singer's scandel was exposed.

Straylight Run's fucking awesome.

Did you get pictures?
Oct. 24th, 2004 02:58 pm (UTC)
Unfortunately, no. And from where I was (minus the blocked view of the keyboards), I probably could've gotten awesome pics with my digicam.

I WAS going to bring the camera but I wasn't sure how the venue's setting would be... b/c if I am in the mosh/squish pit, I don't want to bring extra stuff (but I ended up standing on the balcony above so it would've been OK). Boo.

Was it really her band playing the wrong song or was she embarrassed that her taped vocals started playing without her singing?
Oct. 24th, 2004 03:04 pm (UTC)
It was mostly just a scapegoat for her to say it was the band's fault, taking away focus from the fact SHE WAS LIP SYNCING!

According to news sources, they were supposed to play some other song and the band was starting to play that song. But then the behind the scenes people started that "Pieces of Me" song's "background track" instead, so the band tried to cover it up by playing along with it...therefore, playing the wrong song but not purposely.

Rather sad that she'd completely put the blame on her band for the incident.

Rather unprofessional too I'd say.

haha, yeah I've seen the 2 episodes of it so far!

From the first episodes, I was thinking "whoah, she seems like a psychotic girlfriend". I mean that part where she's all "I sometimes flip thru stations on the radio and I pretend that the lyric is what Josh is thinking" or something, and her incessant JOSH JOSH JOSH-ness (granted, he was hot) made me want to beat her down with a stick.

And don't get me started on her singing attempts in the studio...wow.

(p.s. I don't mind you 'dropping by' the journal heh)
